What is Ayurveda?

From the sanskrit ‘Ayuh’ meaning life and ‘Veda’ meaning knowledge or science, Ayurveda is often translated as the ‘Science of Life’. This comprehensive system of holistic well-being, originating in India, guides us on living in harmony with natural rhythms and cycles — day & night, the lunar cycle, seasonal changes, and more — calling us back into alignment with our own optimal physiology.

Estimates suggest this body of knowledge was first transmitted orally approximately 3000-5000 years ago, and has successfully continued, without alteration, to provide a practical framework for well-being and fulfillment actionable to this day. Though richly steeped in Indian tradition, the fundamental principles of Ayurveda, rooted in simple observation and deep reflection on Nature’s laws, transcend geographical and cultural boundaries benefitting any living being anywhere.

Tell me about Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a rich and potent harmonising practice applied both therapeutically and preventatively in Ayurveda. For millenia, people across India have used this whole-body hot oil massage technique to detoxify the body, balance the physiology, and center the nervous system.

Hot medicated oil lavishly envelops the body, nourishing all the tissues from tip to toe.

To begin, an energising head massage prepares the nervous system for premium relaxation — then the face is tended, followed by the whole body front and back, with particular devoted attention to areas of therapeutic interest and those with concentrated vital energy such as the hands and feet.

A combination of strokes from long sweeping, vigorous rhythmic, and subtle attentive touch collectively cultivate prana, your life-force energy, in every cell. This treatment is a luxuriant invitation to return to yourself, simple and unadulterated, calling forth cellular remembrance of perfect health.

Allow the body-mind to recalibrate, rejuvenate and replenish with 75 or 90 immersive minutes of devoted therapeutic touch.
